The Handmade Difference

At The Island Fudge Shoppe, we take pride in the fact that most of our products are made from scratch, right here in our own kitchen. If you happen to stroll by on a Friday morning, you will be greeted by the smell of freshly made praline patties, and you may even get one that’s still warm….yum! On any given day we could be making anything from creamy chocolate fudge, to molded chocolate alligators.

Our candy counter is chock full of handmade confections, including over 20 flavors of fudge, and a wide selection of hand dipped chocolates to choose from. Scratch made caramel, chocolate covered pretzels and Oreos, and old fashioned buttercrunch toffee are just a few of the mouthwatering selections that await your tastebuds here at The Island Fudge Shoppe.

Meet the Owners

Gus and Maureen Robinson have run this small business now for nearly 40 years, since 1990, when they first moved to Hilton Head Island. The two met in the Washington DC area in the 1980’s, and after getting married, decided to move south to be closer to family. One such family member happened to be a banker on Hilton Head, and he knew someone who bought and sold various businesses.

One of the businesses for sale was The Island Fudge Shoppe. So, they bought the business, moved to Hilton Head, and the rest, as they say, is history. Since then, Gus and Maureen have spent the last 36 years ingraining themselves into the hearts, and taste buds, of the Hilton Head Island community. The store has become a staple of Coligny Plaza shopping center, and an annual stop for generations of visitors.

All 3 of their children have worked in the store over the years, and most recently their two grandkids have even tried their hand at Candy making… Fortunately they’re still young enough to be paid in chocolate!
